In 1931 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand, killing hundreds of people. The towns of Napier and Hastings were all but destroyed.
Rebuilding in the fashions of the time saw Art Deco flavoured buildings, fixtures and furniture appearing everywhere. Like this set of drawers with little Art Deco flourishes on the feet and bottom drawer.
